Summary
This adjunct faculty member is passionate about teaching writing and engaging new college students. Writing instructors at NMC teach all levels of first-year writing (ENG 111, 111/11, 112, 112/12) and join other faculty in teaching an innovative curricula and embracing a team approach to teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to relate well to a diverse population of learners and will use Moodle, an e-learning platform, complement classroom instruction, and/or virtual instruction. Meeting deadlines, communicating proactively, and participating in college-wide assessment are crucial responsibilities. Instructional load may include teaching evenings.
Qualifications
Required:
• Master's degree in English, Creative Writing, or Literature; or a Master's degree in another discipline, plus 18 hours of graduate credit in English, Creative Writing, or Literature
Preferred:
• Teaching experience with integrated computer classrooms, their applications to composition, teaching first year developmental writing students, and basic/developmental reading and writing • Teaching experience using online or "livestream" instruction • Expertise in rhetoric and composition, writing across the curriculum, integrated learning and learning communities, and flexible learning options • Two or more years' college-level composition teaching experience • Experience using Moodle or another online management system to supplement classroom teaching

Teaching Responsibilities
When teaching any courses including but not limited to online, accelerated, livestream, hybrid and face-to-face formats, the adjunct instructor will meet the responsibilities of adjunct faculty in the areas of Curriculum, Teaching Effectiveness, and Professional Qualities and Abilities. Adjunct faculty are encouraged to participate in Professional Development and in areas that Support of College and Community Initiatives.
Teaching Effectiveness
• Compiles, administers, and grades examinations and other learning activities • Uses current and emerging technologies in distance learning and in the classroom; conducts classroom research with classroom assessment techniques • Listens to students and coaches them to actively participate in the learning process • Uses a variety of assessments to promotes student demonstration of learning through exams, discussions, debates, presentations, simulations, and/or debriefings • Provides a course syllabus to the students that includes the College Syllabus information outlined in Moodle • Maintains and regularly updates Moodle gradebook and/or other electronic grading systems
Faculty Professional Development
• Continually engages in learning and scholarship in the area of specialization as time allows
Support of College, Community Initiatives
• Meets requirements for the adjunct review process • Is fully committed to the mission and values of Northwestern Michigan College

• Attend and comply with all HR required Faculty member training • Report grades by college deadlines • Keep accurate student academic records • Meet classes during the time scheduled and for the appropriate length of time
