Summary

This adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching one or more Electronics, Lasers, Industrial Controls and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) courses, including lectures and labs. This person will also be expected to maintain lab, equipment and reagent inventories and to assist in the development and revision of courses as needed. The Lasers class introduces elements of a laser, operation of a helium-neon gas laser, laser physics, optical-cavities, properties of laser light and a survey of laser systems. Safety procedures concerning lasers and related equipment will be discussed throughout the course. The industrial control classes will include content in industrial safely, panel wiring, relay logic and print reading, I/O, motor starters and similar. The PLC courses will include content in PLC wiring and programming, PLC applications, integration of I/O, and HMI development.Advanced PLC courses are offered to go into design and integration.

This adjunct faculty member will employ a range of suitable strategies to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and encourage active learning in all students while maintaining proper class-related records, promptly assessing student coursework and apprising students of their progress. This adjunct faculty member is a member of the professional teaching staff that is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of NMC and the Engineering Technology/Manufacturing/Electrical disciplines. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to relate well to a diverse population of learners and meet the criteria of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Responsibilities may include teaching nights and/or online instruction. There may be a combination of both in-person and online teaching components depending on the course taught and the delivery method.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's in Engineering or Manufacturing field with 3 years of related experience OR

Bachelor's degree with 5 years related experience

OR

Associate's in Engineering Technology/Technology with 5 years of related experience and 3 years of teaching experience OR

No degree with 7 years of related experience and 5 years of teaching experience

• Programming experience of Allen Bradley PLCs or similar • Understanding of basic electrical principles and operations • Experience in industrialcontrol system wiring and relay logic

Preferred:

• State of MI Journeyman (or) Master Electrician license • Master's in Engineering/Manufacturing with 2 years of related experience • Two years of college-level teaching experience • Teaching experience in online environments • Experience using robotic systems including Fanuc, ABB or Universal

Teaching Responsibilities

When teaching any courses including but not limited to online, accelerated, livestream, hybrid and face-to-face formats, the adjunct instructor will meet the responsibilities of adjunct faculty in the areas of Curriculum, Teaching Effectiveness, and Professional Qualities and Abilities. Adjunct faculty are encouraged to participate in Professional Development and in areas that Support of College and Community Initiatives.
