The role you’ll contribute:

Under the general supervision of the Coding Operations Manager, the Coding Supervisor is responsible for assisting the manager with the operational oversight of the coding team. Supervisor responsibilities will include day-to-day functions, new hire onboarding, team member evaluations, quality and productivity performance monitoring, and coding of accounts as needed. Participation in process improvement to successfully maintain ethical coding guidelines and ensure coding standards set forth by AdventHealth and the Revenue Cycle leadership are met. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining equally professional and respectful relationships.

  • Assesses, evaluates and addresses daily workload, queues, and other issues affecting DNFB. Adjusts work schedules daily to meet the workload demands of the department.Drives operational efficiency with accountability for meeting and exceeding established goals.

  • Assists with creating training documentation and guidelines for coding staff. Works with the Coding Manager to provide in-services and continuing education to the coding staff, physicians, and other departments as needed.

  • Assists with the Coding Quality & Compliance Review Program, collaborating with the Data Quality Reviewers to sustain an excellent organizational average accuracy rate while adhering to corporate compliance measures.

  • Monitors coders’ quality and productivity and ensures optimal use of resources to achieve departmental goals, timely resolution, and accurate completion of accounts.

  • Continuously evaluates the quality of clinical documentation to identify incomplete or inconsistent documents on encounters that impact the code selection resulting in an interruption in finalizing coding; concerns to the Coding Manager and/or medical staff for resolution are brought to attention.

  • Participates in department performance improvement reviews and coding reviews.

  • Functions as coding liaison and contact/resource person for providing customer service issues and problem resolution related to coding.

  • Regularly meets with assigned staff to communicate departmental/team expectations and advise of revisions to policies and procedures.

  • Works with other Coding team members to keep coding within two days of discharge and hospital coding days within three days, i.e., a median coding turn-around time of 3 days or less.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· High school diploma and two years of coding education (medical coding certificate program or 2-year HIM program), including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology coursework.

· Minimum of one year of supervisory experience and/or identified leadership developmental skill

AND

· INPATIENT: Three or more (3 ) years of inpatient hospital coding experience, including cases requiring specialized coding skills, such as cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma surgery, neonatology, pediatrics, plastic and reconstruction surgery, bariatric surgery, cardiology, and other services and procedures provided in a tertiary care facility.

OR

· OUTPATIENT: Three or more (3 ) years of proven outpatient coding experience for services, such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, transplantation, and other complicated treatments or procedures, provided in a tertiary or quaternary care facility.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

· RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CIC
