Newport News Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing, providing intensive residential and acute treatment, for males and females ages 8-21. The Recreation Therapist position is responsible for planning, developing, providing and evaluating clinical recreation therapy/treatment for residents and/or patients at the Newport News Behavioral Health Center. Specialized recreation therapy techniques are used to meet the physical, social, emotional, cultural and rehabilitative needs of clients/patients. Position functions as a team member in all aspects of clinical decision-making and with the construction of multidisciplinary treatment planning.
Qualifications
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or a related field or 2 years experience in the recreation or activities department of an inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse facility. Preferred 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents. He/she must hold a Certification in Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS), be CPR certified, and hold a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Experience: 2 years of experience preferred in the recreation or activities department of an inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse facility .
