Position Summary: The Children's Aid Society runs a 53-day camp facility in Chappaqua, NY. Multiple program are run there: summer day camp, overnight respite program for developmentally delayed children, adventure day programming, special events, and weekend retreats through the academic year.
Essential Duties: **
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the camp facility in good working order and in compliance with staff and local laws. This covers both the buildings and the grounds and fall into four categories: Custodial, Mechanical/Maintenance, Grounds and Special Events: The Maintenance Supervisor manages a full-time staff of two and part time and seasonal maintenance staffers.to carry out maintenance and custodial tasks for the camp at the direction of the Facility Manager.
Custodial
Managing the carting schedule to ensure routine waste pick up. Ensuring all the camp refuse cans are regularly emptied to prevent wildlife from getting into the garbage.
Ensuring the regular cleaning of the cabins and camp buildings so they are ready for use daily.
Maintain a stock of custodial supplies.
Ensuring the camp is set up for programming as needed and daily in the summer, that includes moving furniture and equipment around the camp for programming and storage purposes.
Mechanical/Maintenance
Performing repairs involving plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and road surface
Excavating as needed for drainage improvements.
Installing new doors, water heaters, insulation, fencing, and other upgrades appropriate for the maintenance staff.
Operate of rental machinery: mini-excavators, post hole diggers, etc.
Managing the opening, maintaining and closing of the pools.
Planning and implementing floor care in all buildings.
Planning and implementing the painting of buildings in rotation over time.
Grounds Responsibilities
Mowing lawns with commercial mowers
Field Maintenance: nail dragging, raking, soil amendments
Cleaning roofs and gutters
Managing the camp drainage system: cleaning catch basins
Snow removal and salting of pathways
Maintaining landscaping: weed control, pruning trees, cutting and cleaning up fallen trees
Maintaining the horse corral facility in the summer: shelters, fencing, and surface.
Special Events
Managing parking for events
Assisting with corporate volunteer groups that do maintenance projects
Minimum Qualifications: **
NYS Driver’s License
Pool Operators Certificate
15 years of experience in building and grounds maintenance
Ability to lift and/or carry 50+lbs
Flexibility with work schedule to ensure the safe operations of camp when youth are in residence
Ability to operate heavy machineries and equipment
