Position Overview:

Reporting to and under general direction of the Fleet Manager the Shop Supervisor plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the operation of multiple road and shop mechanics that are responsible for the maintenance and repair of all equipment used in day to day operations of our company.

Essential Functions:

  • Assesses and coordinates a variety of daily projects for the purpose of meeting timely deadlines for returning equipment to service or preparing new equipment for fleet usage.

  • Recommend and implements policies and procedures while monitoring them through usage of available reports.

  • Serves as main contact for calls / request from crews and supervisors for the repair of units that breakdown while in the field.

  • Evaluate the need for external vendors for the repair and / or maintenance of company equipment.

  • Maintain a variety of electronic reports and files to document equipment repairs and mechanics activates.

  • Supervises assigned staff, addressing employee concerns/problems, counseling, disciplining, performance appraisals, etc.

  • Assuring that shop is staffed during normal operation hours and assigning overtime when needed to maintain equipment.

  • Prepare purchase orders and approve vendor invoices for payment while assuring that invoice has been applied to proper work order / unit number.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Fleet Manager.

Qualifications:

Preferred: A combination of experience, training and education in the repair and maintenance of a fleet of vehicles that include a range of equipment from handheld to excavators.

Required: Minimum2-3 years of experience in the management of multiple mechanics in a shop and or road service environment.

Special Knowledge/ Skills

Required: Strong leadership skills and the ability to work in an open and consultative manner. Ability to plan, coordinate, organize, prioritize, and delegate under limited supervision multiple locations of repairs by company employees as well as the use of vendors for these repairs.. Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
