Position Overview

The Global Electricity Transition team within RMI's Carbon-Free Electricity Program works across theelectricitysystem to support the transition to clean, affordable, and reliability electricity globally, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies.We work closely with utilities, governments, financial institutions, and other NGOs across a range of topics, such as the transition away from fossil-powered generation, the deployment and integration of renewable energy and grid flexibility technologies, and mobilization of finance. We employ a unique combination of research, in-country engagement, and collaboration to support individuals and organizations to innovate and implement transformative energy solutions.

As a Senior Associate in this role, youareacreative problem solver who usesyourquantitative, technical, and analytical abilities to conduct compellingresearch and assessmentround vital energy issues.You are collaborative and humble in engaging with local partners to understand market needs and conditions. You don't settle for the status quo-you actively dig deeper to understand the underlying root of problems and focus on generating new ideas and solutions to those barriers. You collaborate with your team members to craft visionary yet practical solutions for our research questions and partners, prioritizing solutions that can be implemented in reality.

Examples of your projects might include:

Supporting an electricity regulator to develop a framework for enabling battery energy storage project development, evaluating the viability of a shift in a utility's investment plan to reduce fossil resource capacity in favor of clean energy, interviewing stakeholders to assess the applicability of an innovative utility business model in a new geography, or supporting a utility or project developer on strategies to mobilize transition finance for power sector projects.

Senior Associates are independent contributors that have developed significant subject matter expertise in one or more areas relevant to RMI's work. At more advanced levels, Senior Associates also manage projects and the contributions of other staff to their projects.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Conduct analytical research.

Locate, synthesize, and analyzedata that allows RMI to shed new light on problems and devise creative solutions.

Develop hypotheses to guide work and propose new ways toassessproblems.

Contributeto RMI teamsthroughfacilitating events and conversations with diverse government and electricity-and finance-sector stakeholders.

Synthesize quantitative information and recommendations into clear and compelling presentations and written reports.

Engage external experts via phone interviews, conferences, and responses to outreach requests.

Support work to generate project pipelines and support enabling conditions for clean energy and energy transition projects in RMI's critical geographies.

Develop insights and recommendations to support the power sector transition with a focus on emerging markets and developing economies, drawing on various change levels such as deployment of technical solutions, capacity building, mobilization of capital, or power sector planning.

Lead and manage specific projects with support from senior staff.

Lead and manage stakeholder relationships in relation to specific projects, which could include utilities, project developers, regulators, and public and private financial institutions.

Structure and guide the work of more junior team members, when needed.

Contribute publicly at conferences, share expertise in response to media requests, discuss our work with donors, and direct RMI research collaborations.

Travel up to 25%, primarily internationally.

MinimumQualifications

Undergraduate degree in an applicable field such as engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, energy), business (marketing, finance,international), finance, international development, public policy,economics,computer science, mathematics, physical and social sciences.
