What you'll be doing?
The Lead Automation Engineer is responsible for successfully designing and developing high-value automation projects involving robotics, machine vision, servo systems, linear actuators, pneumatics, and unique processes. The Lead Automation Engineer will provide principal engineering work while providing leadership at the team level. This leadership will broadly cover the process from concept to installation and ramp-up, with a focus on scope control and quality control. The Lead Automation Engineer will report to the Director of Automation and will be responsible for on-time delivery to specification within the cost expectations defined by the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner with the Project Management team to provide accountability and ensure delivery to cost, schedule, and quality targets
Interact with customers to manage scope and deliverables
Provide technical leadership to manage project scope, ensure best practices at the detail level, and ensure design quality
Act as the principal project engineer, providing conceptual and detailed work product
Promote a safe and ethical workplace to deliver equipment that meets all company, state, and federal requirements for the same
Collaborate within Fresh Consulting to ensure a successful team-oriented work environment
Alert senior management of any deviations from the agreed plan that might significantly impact cost, schedule, or quality
We Want You To Have:
Extensive knowledge and experience of the following:
Standard shop practices for CNC machining, welding, and other custom part manufacturing processes
ANSI Y14.5-2009, including geometric tolerancing
Engineering materials commonly used in automated machinery
Industrial robotics and EOAT design
Part feeder technologies and design
Transfer system technologies and design
Tooling, fixturing, and gripping principles
Manufacturing process development for automation
Solidworks and Solidworks PDM
Precision weldment fabrication process and constraints
Familiarity with common automation processes, methods, and technologies including the following:
Laser welding, ablation, and soldering
Machine vision for robot guidance
Machine vision for inline part inspection
Automated dispensing technologies
Plastic joining methods
Advanced sensors, such as laser distance and laser profile sensors
Common fabrication processes such as milling, drilling, and sawing
Linear and rotary servo systems
Experience modeling complex mechanical systems using Solidworks
Possess highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact within both engineering and operational environments, and with both clients and suppliers
Highly organized, detail-oriented, motivated and self-directed
Competent with Microsoft Office Suite
Education:
BS in Mechanical Engineering with 5-10 years of relevant experience in the automation field
Advanced degree a plus

For Washington-State-based role, the base salary hiring range for this position is $140k to $160k. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
