Description

As a Software Development Engineer, you will play a key role in developing this cutting-edge Generative AI solution that leverages large language models and advanced natural language processing techniques.

This role will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs. Our employees and the neighboring community will also benefit from the associated investments from the Commonwealth including infrastructure updates, public transportation improvements, and new access to Reagan National Airport.

Key job responsibilities

Architect and implement core components of the Generative AI system powering the Automated Assistant

Integrate large language models for retrieval-augmented code generation models into the product

Build robust APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure to support AI model deployment at scale

Optimize model performance, latency, and cost by building tests and continuously improving the framework

Develop interfaces to manage prompts, provide feedback, and improve the Automated Assistant

Implement AI guardrails around security, privacy, and data governance

Collaborate across software engineering, data science, data engineering, and product teams through the full SDLC

A day in the life

Our Automated Assistant is an AI-powered conversational assistant that enables AWS teams like Technical Program Managers (TPMs) and Service Builders to efficiently manage region deployment workflows. Using natural language interactions, it provides real-time data access, visualizations, task automation, and insights - allowing teams to make faster, data-driven decisions during region builds.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Familiarity with natural language processing, information retrieval, or generative modeling

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

  • Prior experience building and deploying large language models applications or generative AI systems

  • Knowledge of responsible AI practices like bias mitigation, privacy preservation

  • Proficiency with AWS AI/ML services like SageMaker, Bedrock, etc.
